Although I could've perhaps done a better job with the graphics of these animations, I am not an artist.

I decided to create an Egyptian scene for my next project. As not a lot was happening I decided to mainly focus on background noise.

Camera Movement

Function

Panning

A horizontal camera movement where the camera turns left or right while its base remains in a fixed location

Tilting

A vertical movement in which the camera remains in a fixed location while the camera moves vertically

Travelling (Handheld)

The cameraman holds the camera and moves through space while filming

Tracking/Crabbing

Tracking is the movement of a camera towards and away from the subject. Crabbing is the sideways movement of a camera. You cannot crab forwards or backwards. You cannot track left or right

Dolly

A specific kind of tracking shot where we follow a subject on a dolly. Dolly shots are designed to be smooth and controlled camera movements

Zoom

Technique of changing the focal length of the camera lens during a shot

Panning

(7:49-7:55)

Panning was used to show us the pilot seeing the outside scene, going to ask for help, and being met at gunpoint. It shows us the pilot's line of sight.

At 7:47 we can also see the use of zoom.

Tilting

(1:51-1:52)

Tilting was used to show us the hiding of the 2 men after being shot at.

Handheld

(6:16-6:22)

Handheld was used to track the movement of the man on the left of the picture. The way it was filmed makes us feel like we were there.

Dolly

(0:50-1:02)

A dolly was used to track the car's movements as it followed the train.
