Editorial Photography
Editorial photography is often know for the pictures that accompany a written article, however they can also be used stand alone to tell a story. It's important we focus on the story we want to tell. Making a mood board or drawing a story board can help focus on the right aesthetic.

Editorial (Magazine) photography was first invented in the early 20th century, circa 1930, by Fortune magazine. Below (image 4) is the photo Margaret Bourke-White took for the article. The picture tell us the story of industrial civilization.
Commercial Photography
Commercial photography encompasses many other types of photography; these include lifestyle photography, fashion photography, architectural photography, portrait photography. It all depends on the product you're trying to sell. Although the importance lies on the product you're trying to sell, in recent years photographers have taken pictures without the main focus being the product. This is to show us how well the product incorporates with daily life.

Commercial Photography primarily started in 1850. Earlier photographs were mostly viewed as an art form rather than advertising.

Portrait photography is the art of capturing people's faces. Portraits can be used to preserve history.

In 1839 Robert Cornelius took the first ever portrait of a human being. Since then portraiture has evolved, there were 4 main styles; the constructionist portrait, the environmental portrait, the candid portrait and the the creative portrait.
Photojournalism Photography
Photojournalism is quite similar to editorial photography. However contrary to editorial photography, photojournalism focus on the current news. While the focus of editorial photographs tends to be more fashionable, photojournalism focus on daily life.

Photojournalism was first used in mid 19th century, circa 1850. Below (image 3) is the first photo regarded as photojournalism. Photojournalism had a surge in WWII as many photographers focused on war photography. Nowadays numerous newspapers have become available in an online format.
Landscape Photography
Landscape photography is often known for it's pictures of nature, although buildings could also be considered landscape; this is called urban landscape photography. It is important to keep the foreground items in mind to prevent the shot from being 1 dimensional.

Fashion photography is the act of photographing clothes. Your models, clothes, poses, angles are all key to the shoot. You need to remember the focus is centered around the clothes not the model.
